They say the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree – and that is certainly true for young Suzie McCash.
When her mother, a doctor, collapsed from an allergic reaction the brave four-year-old acted quickly and helped save her life by calling 999.
Suzie, from Tynemouth, North Tyneside, stayed calm and rang police to explain that "Mummy's got her eyes closed" and that she could not talk.
This led paramedics to mother Rowena's home after she had suffered a respiratory arrest in the hallway.
Suzie was presented with a commendation for bravery from Northumbria Police at force headquarters.
During the call, Suzie, who wants to be a paramedic when she grows up, answers questions from call handler Adam Hall explaining what has happened.
After Mrs McCash is able to say the word allergy down the phone, Mr Hall asks Suzie to keep talking to her mother until help arrives.
Mrs McCash was taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital where she stayed overnight before being released the following day.
Superintendent Nicola Musgrove said: "Suzie's mum stopped breathing altogether but paramedics were able to stabilise her. Had it not been for the quick actions of Suzie she would undoubtedly have died.
"She rang 999, knocked on a neighbour's door and opened the front door for the police officers and paramedics. She is a very brave little girl."
