THE Duchess of Cambridge wowed in a glamorous red frock as she joined Prince William for a historical reception at British Columbia’s Government House in Victoria.
Kate, 34, turned heads in a dazzling $1688 Preen dress and wore the royal family’s diamond maple leaf brooch given to her by the Queen, paying tribute to her host nation’s symbol through her jewellery.

The Maple Leaf Brooch was given to the late Queen Mother by her husband, King George VI, to mark the state visit to Canada in 1939.
The reception at the 13-bedroom property where William, Kate and their children are staying was attended by leaders in British Columbia’s legislature, government and judiciary.
But the posh event was snubbed by Canadian First Nations chief Stewart Philip in a protest over the plight of the First Nation’s people.

In a statement, he said: “In good conscience, I cannot participate in the Black Rod ceremony. The suffering in our communities is too great. I apologise for any inconvenience we may have caused with our decision. It is a matter of principle.”
The royal couple’s visit marked an official royal endorsement of the rainforest under the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy, which promotes conservation of indigenous forests.
Earlier in the day, bad weather forced the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to cancel some elements of their visit to the Canadian wilderness.
It meant Prince William and Kate did not take part in a sea plane tour of the Great Bear Rainforest, but instead arrived at the Bella Bella First Nations settlement by boat for day three of the royal tour.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said: “It is still a beautiful place in the rain and everyone is prepared to get wet. It’s just that some of the program elements are weather-dependant.”
“The weather forecast has meant that we have unfortunately had to make the call to cancel the float plane tour of the rainforest. Their Royal Highnesses will instead arrive at the Bella Bella breakwater by boat. Hopefully the rest of their program will remain unchanged.”
The island community greeted the royals with a traditional welcoming ceremony and a cultural sharing ceremony by the Jeiltsuk First Nations community and Bella Bella Community School.
From there they were guided by young people through Bella Bella to the community centre and watched a youth performance.
