Five refugees, including a three-year-old girl, were discovered inside a container delivered to a Wexford transport company on Sunday evening.
The discovery was made at around 6pm when Gardai were asked to attend the company's base in New Ross.
A spokesperson for the Gardai confirmed that four adults and one child were discovered inside the container which had been collected from Rosslare Europort.
They are believed to be from the Middle East.
“The Gardai were notified there might be people inside the container,” said the spokesperson.
“Upon arrival the members discovered three adult males, one adult female and a three-year-old girl,” he added.
All five were removed from the container and brought to Wexford for medical assessment.
“They are currently being dealt with under emigration legislation and thankfully they are all in good health,” said the Garda spokesperson.
The four adults are all in their mid-to-late 20s and the trailer involved was collected in Rosslare and brought to New Ross.
The transport company declined to comment on the matter when contacted due to the sensitive nature of the matter.
A similar incident occurred in February this year when Gardai discovered nine men inside a container that was also delivered to New Ross.
This December will mark 15 years since the discovery of eight people who died in a freight container which arrived in to Wexford,
Eight refugees, including two children, died from oxygen deprivation in the container.
