A young boy killed by a drink driver has become the face of a Christmas and New Year anti drink driving campaign.
Ciaran Treacy was a passenger in his mother's car when Finbarr O’Rourke, a 41-year-old man who had consumed up to 10 pints of cider crashed his vehicle head-on into them near Ballymorris, Co Laois in 2014.
Gillian and Ronan Treacy are now urging people not to drink and drive in a new Road Safety Authority (RSA) Christmas campaign that describes the impact the tragedy had on their lives.
The campaign will revolve around the advertisement (below) which features Ciarán's parents and others involved on the day of his death.
Mum Gillian said: "Thursday the 17th of April 2014, the day our lives were shattered."
Ronan described it as "the worst day of our lives".

The chilling advertisement also features interviews with garda sergeant Dave Lynam who arrived at the scene, paramedic Christy Kelly and Nurse Mary Joyce who described the desperate battle to keep him alive.
"His little chest was tiny. You try your best to keep his heart pumping," she said.
ICU nurse Patrice O’Connell said: "I hope that I will never experience lifting a little boy’s body into his grieving mother’s arms ever again."
