Tuesday's forecast: Stormy Plains, Northwest

The national weather forecast for Tuesday, October 4th calls for showers in the Plains, along the Southeast coast, and snow in the Northern Rockies.

The main weather stories Tuesday will be a line of severe thunderstorms in the Plains and cool, rainy and snowy weather in the Northwest.

Plains: Severe storms will rattle areas from the Dakotas to Texas on Tuesday, with hail and tornadoes possible. Eastern Nebraska and most of Kansas and Oklahoma are at the greatest risk for severe weather.

Northwest: A cool, damp day is forecast for much of the northwestern U.S. Showers will soak the coast from northern California to Washington while rain and snow spreads across the northern Rockies.

East: Most of the eastern third of the nation will be clear and mild Tuesday. The exceptions will be portions of Florida and the Carolina beaches, where some showers are forecast.
