RTE star Gay Byrne took time out from his treatment for cancer to catch up with a blockbuster that focuses on his greatest passion - aviation.
The former Late Late Show host was spotted in good spirits while queuing for tickets for the new Tom Hanks movie Sully at the Point Theatre cinema on Friday.
Side by side with his good friend, property developer Harry Crosbie, the pair were seen laughing and chatting as they availed of the 4pm half- price tickets, traditionally known in the movie world as 'the four-penny rush'.
Ireland's best-known presenter recently stunned listeners to his radio show when he told them: "[I] have to go to hospital this week. They think they may have discovered a bit of cancer in the prostate and they think it may have moved up into my back. I've had the most wonderful, fantastic, robust, good health all my broadcasting life. It's my turn now. Many, many people much worse off. Thank you for your good wishes."
The veteran broadcaster has had a passion for aircraft since learning to fly more than 40 years ago. During the height of his career he would don a helmet, hop on his motorbike and ride to the perimeter fence at Dublin Airport to watch planes come and go, while listening to the controllers on the radio.
