IT WAS Australian cinema and television’s night of nights, but one star turned heads for a different kind of reason.

Cate Blanchett, who was hosting the Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) awards in Sydney last night, not only turned up to the ceremony on the bus, but seemed to leave her underwear behind.

Walking the red carpet in an unforgiving Alexander McQueen caftan, Blanchett admitted to several reporters that she was “not wearing any knickers tonight!”

She also confessed that she’d caught the bus to the ceremony, so she could stand up while travelling, and avoid crinkles on her gown.
