DINERS with an iron clad stomach have been challenged to eat reputedly Melbourne’s biggest burger in under 15 minutes — and get it for free.

For $50, JD’s Burgers in Willsmere Rd, Kew will test even the strongest stomach with this eight pattie, eight bacon rasher, cheesy monster.

Weighing in at 1.5kg, the Legendary Super Saiyan has been attempted by just six brave souls.

No one has passed the test yet.

Co-chef and waitress Brenda Tuong said there had been one near miss.

“One guy did manage to eat the whole thing but unfortunately he didn’t do it within the required 15 minutes,” Ms Tuong said.

Andrew Jefferson sizes up the challenge.

“He was enjoying it so much he just wanted to finish it.”

Where others have failed, I decided to try my luck at downing this mountainous stack of beef.

Watching co-chef Daniel Tuong carefully assemble this cheesy tower of terror gave me the first indications of the size of the challenge ahead.

As the burger tower started to topple, two wooden sticks helped to bring such much stability to this fried feast.

I asked Ms Toung for her best advice in tackling this giant burger.

“Some people like to take it apart first while others just choose to dive in from the top,” she said.

“It’s really up to you but it can get a bit messy trying to hold it in your hands.

“Don’t worry, we have 000 on speed dial should you need it.”

Some simple maths revealed that I needed to finish each pattie and rash of bacon in under two minutes otherwise I was mincemeat.

With the stopwatch counting down from 15 minutes and the pressure on, I grabbed my knife and fork and dived in.

As I polished off the top bun, my first pattie, and first rash of bacon, I looked up to see the stopwatch showing 11 minutes to go.

I knew I was in trouble.

Just five minutes were left after I finished pattie number two — maybe I was just a slow eater?

Unfortunately I was beaten by the clock as I was halfway though pattie number three.

How did the chef rate my performance?

“A good try and you were definitely the classiest eater we’ve had so far,” said Ms Tuong.

A small crumb of comfort at least.
