IF YOU think you’ve got it bad when it comes to public transport, spare a thought for these commuters whose train ran late every single day last year.

UK rail company, Southern, failed to ever get the 7.29am service from Brighton to London by the scheduled time of 8.35am leaving commuters frustrated and late to work.

It’s not just the 7.29am service that ran late either, the 7.14am train before it only ran on time on only one per cent of occasions and the 7.44am train after it was on time only two per cent of the time.

A spokesman for Southern said: “We acknowledge that the performance of the 7.29am Brighton to London Victoria service has been particularly disappointing.

“This is a train that we know has a poor PPM record and although we’re working hard to improve its performance, its planned path is extremely tight because the network is so busy.”

National Rail’s performance is judged on a public performance measure (PPM) that says a commuter train service is on time if it arrives within five minutes of scheduled time, for long-distance trains it is 10 minutes.

One certainty in life is that my #southernrail train will never be on time, unless I'm running late...in which case it's abnormally punctual

Sometimes I feel like I'm in a relationship with Southern Rail. They're very high maintenance and never turn up to dates on time

Southern Rail says this service suffers from capacity issues and demand.

“We’ve identified some issues with the 7.29, with the way it interacts with other services, but the timetable and the capacity demand is so intense that some of the options of what we can do are quite limited,” said Southern Rail deputy managing director David Scorey who says work is underway to improve the service.
