Backlash over Ghostbusters all female cast

“NOW I’m not sexist at all but an all female Ghostbusters is just fu**ed up.”

This “non-sexist” response was just one of many which polluted social media sites yesterday when it was announced that the Ghostbusters reboot will star Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.

The movie is due out in July 2016 but some people have already decided they’ll give the flick a miss due to the all female cast.

“How ridiculous ... the feminists have won,” wrote one person the news.com.au Facebook page.

“I was so looking forward to a remake, now I’m not even going to watch it out of principle,” wrote another.

Their sentiments were echoed on twitter.

“Well my day just got ruined ... #Ghostbusters. All female cast burns me out. A gender mixed team with a female lead wouldn’t bug me but this?”

“Melissa McCarthy and 3 other chicks in a #Ghostbusters reboot?! I think I just threw up in my mouth #woof”

Everyone is of course entitled to their own opinion and mine is that radio personality Michael Beveridge summed it up best when he wrote yesterday:

“If you don’t like that they’re making an all-female Ghostbusters then you’re dumb because it means there’s going to be another Ghostbusters.”

Well said Michael.
