Cut price ... tickets to One Direction’s stadium tour of Australia have been slashed at the eleventh hour. Source: Supplied
TICKETS for boy band One Direction’s Australian stadium tour have been slashed by half price just days before the shows begin.
It’s a move that is worrying for the band’s longevity but good news for fans whose pocket money didn’t stretch to buying tickets to 1D’s third Australian tour in less than three years.
Budget ticket site lasttix.com.au has put half-price tickets for shows in Sydney and Brisbane on sale, with some tickets now selling for as little as $50.

Industry rumours had been circling that the boy band were struggling to fill stadiums in Australia with many fans seemingly growing up or moving on to more credible acts like Ed Sheeran and The 1975.

The first One Direction show is this Saturday in Sydney, before heading to Brisbane.
Tickets that sold for $139.90 are now $69.90, while the cheap seats originally priced at $99.90 are now $50 from the website.
The tour was announced last May, continuing the band’s smart business policy of putting tickets on sale up to a year in advance.
Paul Cashmere of music website Noise 11 said the last minute cheap tickets were an unfortunate symptom of the short life-cycle of a boy band.
“A One Direction garage sale is hardly surprising considering the origins of the band,” Cashmere said. “A manufactured boy band targeting young teens will work as a fashion statement at the time but like all teenage fashions the kids quickly grow out of the old and onto the new.
“One Direction have been around for nearly five years but unlike an old shirt you can’t pass down a boy band to a younger kid. When you put a band like this on sale a year out you have to cross your fingers they will still be relevant to their original audience by the time the tour starts.”
Cashed up 1D fans can still pay around $300 for a ‘hot ticket’ including a 1D watch, close view of the stage and a mocktail.
Catwalk tickets are selling for around $570; neither package includes a meet and greet.
British band McBusted, a combination of Busted and McFly, were announced as support act for the tour last month.
McBusted share management with One Direction and are playing their own shows in Melbourne and Sydney, where fans can buy a meet and greet package for $250.

X Factor winner Samantha Jade will open the shows as the second support.
One Direction’s latest album Four went double platinum last week, matching the 140,000 sales of previous album Midnight Memories in Australia.
Their second album Take Me Home went triple platinum in Australia with over 210,000 sales however they have yet to top the five times platinum sales of their debut Up All Night, marking over 350,000 copies sold.
