THE several week stay in the South African jungle might be torturous and tough, but a potentially significant payday looms at the end of it for the I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! stars.

If the Network Ten series pans out anything like the original in the United Kingdom, appearing on screens five nights a week could propel the personalities a few rungs up the bankability ladder.

Each of the 10 celebs on the Australian version is at different stages of their careers, but they share a common trait — all could benefit from new opportunities.

For reality star Chrissie Swan, it might result in a day job to fill the void left from the radio show she left at the end of last year, while for comedian Joel Creasey it could mean demand from bigger stand-up venues.

Former TV personality Andrew Daddo’s mostly empty work schedule may start to fill up, while retired athletes Leisel Jones, Barry Hall and Merv Hughes might also find themselves much busier.

For male model Tyson Mayr and former Hi-5 kids entertain Lauren Brant, it’s an opportunity to crack the mainstream.

Even though the show’s first week saw mostly flat ratings, it’s still hitting strong in the key demographics — the ones that like to spend money.

In the UK, a number of stars walked out of the bush camp — which is based in Australia — and into lucrative deals back at home, thanks to their refreshed exposure.

KATIE PRICE

The glamour model better known as Jordan went from being a page three bikini poser to author, clothing designer, product endorser and even bigger television after appearing on the first season of I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! in Britain.

Her few weeks in the bush dramatically expanded her fan base and resulted in a multi-million pound payday that hasn’t waned too much in the years since.

Price even experienced the whole adventure again, by returning to the bush again a few years ago.

PETER ANDRE

Despite a briefly successful singing career in the 1990s, Andre had slipped well and truly off the radar before heading to the bush for season one.

But the Australian-born entertainer’s stint in the celebrity camp saw him go on to stake a place among the A-listers, bag a number of endorsement deals and even release a new hit single.

The fact he hooked up with Price while on the show only helped further their respective media profiles.

DAVID GEST

The famed American producer and one-time husband of the legendary Liza Minnelli was so popular after his boot stint that he landed three prime-time television series.

Just days after being booted from the show at the final hurdle, Gest flew back to London to perform in the Royal Variety Concert in front of Prince Charles.

He also released a smash hit single titled ‘Get Me Outta Here’.

KERRY KATONA

When her profile began to wane after she left the pop group Atomic Kitten, Katona began searching for work in TV and wound up on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!

Her stint was so successful that she bagged a bunch of TV work, including several of her own reality shows.

She also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother and wrote a few books. In 2012, she reunited the music group that made her famous, then they split. But it has been rumoured that Atomic Kitten are set for a third wind as part of a new reality series called The Big Reunion.

JOE PASQUALE

His stage, stand-up and TV career was well established but a stint in the bush propelled Pasquale to a whole new level.

The comedian enjoyed a significantly higher profile after winning the show and has since done a number of TV shows, enjoyed larger tours and was even inspired to overcome his fear of flying and gain his pilot’s license.

MARK WRIGHT

Before going into the bush, Wright spent a year on the reality series The Only Way Is Essex, but it would be his I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! journey that would have the biggest payday.
