Why are reporters still asking celebrities insulting questions?

COME ON. Why is this still happening?

Despite the popularity of the #AskHerMore hashtag, which urges reporters to stop asking female celebrities questions about their manicures or their sex lives and focus more on their career achievements, Taylor Swift was thrown this curveball during a Grammys red carpet interview on Monday.

“I think you’re going to walk home with more than just a trophy tonight. I think lots of men?” Entertainment Tonight host Nancy O’Dell asked Swift.

After collecting her jaw off the floor, Swift gave this awesome response: “I’m gonna hang out with my friends and then go home to the cats. Men get me in trouble. I don’t ... no.”

Nancy O’Dell’s co-host Elvis Duran tried to salvage the situation by remarking how the world “loves to watch [Swift] and your friends empower each other. It’s about women energising women.”

It’s sad that despite all the positive discussion surrounding #AskHerMore, people like Swift still get asked these insulting questions.

Over the past six months, several female celebs have spoken out about the sexist treatment they receive, compared to their male counterparts.

Scarlett Johansson lamented to her Avengers co-star Robert Downey Jr during a recent press conference: “Why do you get the really interesting, existential questions and I get the, like, rabbit food question?”

At the SAG awards last month, Jennifer Aniston, Julianne Moore and Reese Witherspoon all refused to stick their hands in the ‘mani-cam’ — a camera which gives fashion lovers a close up view of jewellery and nail looks. “No, I’m not doing that,” Moore simply said.

And it seems E! News listened to their complaints — kind of. The ‘mani-cam’ was replaced with a ‘clutch cam’ at the Grammys on Monday.

People Magazine also installed a ‘shoe cam’ on the red carpet, and asked both male and female celebs to show off their designer wheels.

Some media outlets are switching things up.

Elle magazine has launched a project called Flip the Script in an article titled ‘Elle.com asks men inane questions on the red carpet’.

Actors Kevin Costner and Eddie Redmayne were asked pearlers like, “How did you get ready for tonight” and “How do you balance work and family life?” Their responses were rich and fascinating.

Hopefully more reporters will get on board, and Swift won’t have to answer a question about her sex life ever again.
