NINE has made shock changes to The Block: Triple Threat to make sure there is no repeat of the auction disaster that plagued The Block: Glasshouse.
Three buyers’ advocates have been added to the show to judge contestants’ apartments alongside Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Neale Whitaker.
The advocates include Frank Valentic from Advantage Property who viewers will recognise from many past Block auctions.
The other advocates are Nicole Jacobs from Jacobs Buying Group, who has also bid at Block auctions, and Greville Pabst from WBP Property Group.

The move comes after horrendous auction results on The Block Glasshouse last October.
Brothers Shannon and Simon made $335,000 profit and snagged the $100,000 winners’ prize. Chris and Jenna pocketed $310,000. But it was downhill after that. Maxine and Karstan made $40,000 with Michael and Carlene and Darren and Deanne taking home a measly $10,000 apiece.
The result was a massive disappointment after the profits made on The Block Fans v Faves, which ranged from $507,250 to $636,000.

Advocates and contestants blamed the Prahran location (next to a busy tramline), too many (five) apartments being auctioned at once, widely differing reserve prices and a lack of genuine buyers.
The Triple Threat apartment block is located in Melbourne’s up-market Darling Street, South Yarra — but that doesn’t guarantee success.

Executive producer Julian Cress wants to make sure there is no repeat when the four apartments in Triple Threat are auctioned in coming months.
“Everyone has an opinion on the rooms and apartments on The Block but no one’s opinion matters more for the contestants than the actual buyers on auction day,” Cress says.
“We thought giving them some feedback from people who might be ultimately bidding on their apartment would be a valuable addition to the program.”

Each Sunday ‘room reveal’ edition of The Block Triple Threat will feature Blaze, Palmer and Whittaker’s scores, with the winning team snagging $10,000 to put towards their renovation.
Every Monday edition of The Block Triple Threat will feature Valentic, Jacobs, and Pabst’s scores along with the contestants’ scores for each other’s rooms. The winning team gets $5000.
Nine sources confirm that the judges and the buyers’ advocates have come up with very different scores for the same rooms.
Another change to the show will see Blaze, Palmer or Whittaker mentor teams that get the bottom score on the Sunday ‘room reveal’ episodes. The judges will help teams remedy weak points such as styling or colour palette.
