CHRIS Hemsworth’s new movie Blackhat which opened in US cinemas over the weekend is the first box office disaster of the year.
The Aussie heartthrob’s latest movie has been one of the worst debuts ever for a movie playing in over 2500 locations according to Box Office Mojo.
The movie portrays Hemsworth, a convicted computer hacker, using his powers for good to hunt down a group of hackers causing havoc in China and Chicago.

But the movie has been a flop, earning a minuscule $4 million over the weekend, the lowest opening for director Michael Mann since Manhunter in 1986.
And now it’s been pulled from cinematic release in Australia and will instead go straight to DVD, likely in May.
It’s a rare misstep for the Aussie golden boy. His roles in the Marvel superhero movies have helped that franchise rake in billions worldwide. And even his non-Thor movies have performed well.
Winner ... ‘American Sniper’ starring Bradley Cooper has proved a box office smash taking home the big bucks. Picture: Warner Bros Pictures, Source: AP
But the movie everyone is talking about, Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper, has proved it’s worth all the attention, taking in a record-shattering $90.2 million during its US opening.
The price ismore than twice as high as the previous January opening weekend record held by Ride Along which took home $41.5 million, and ranks second highest for an R-rated movie debut weekend behind 2003’s The Matrix Reloaded which made $91.8 million.
So while the results aren’t great for Hemsworth at least he can take comfort in the fact he was voted Sexiest Man Alive last year.
