Pizza Hut launches Vegemite and cheese-infused Mitey Stuffed Crust for Australia Day

TO celebrate Australia Day, the nation’s favourite salty spread is now available on pizza.

That’s right: in a move that has the rest of the world wincing in disgust, Pizza Hut has launched a new Mitey Stuffed Crust, inflused with Vegemite and melted cheese.

Pizza Hut Australia’s head of marketing, Fatima Syed, said the pairing represents “an Australian rite of passage” that many of us have enjoyed since childhood.

“The Mitey Stuffed Crust Pizza works unbelievably well with any of our topping combinations and we couldn’t think of a more quintessentially Aussie pizza to launch in time for Australia Day,” she said in a statement.

But international reviews, showcased in an ad filmed at a backpackers hostel in Bondi Beach, weren’t quite as enthusiastic.

After biting into the gooey crust, travellers from far-flung places like Britain, Germany and Chile said it tasted like “medicine”, “petrol” and “fish jam”.

“This is disgusting,” concluded one of the grimacing Chileans.

The one-minute clip ends with the declaration: “Made for Australia”.

However, Aussies are also divided over the new menu item, taking to social media to express everything from wonderment to apocalyptic horror.
