IT’S one of the chicest events on the Melbourne social calendar and is certainly giving the racing a run for its money as the must-attend event among Victoria’s elite.

Barely ten days into the new year, the prestigious Jeep Portsea Polo has already set itself up as hard to beat, attracting 6,000 of Melbourne’s best known and best dressed on Saturday at Point Neapean Park.

The Portsea Polo field, tucked in to the stunning surrounds of Port Phillip Bay, was awash with men in dapper blazers, chinos and boat shoes and women in a mix of geometric and floaty ensembles and must-have comfortable wedges.

Fashion designer and former reality star Whitney Port brought some international glamour to the event, choppering in to the grounds with fiance Tim Rosenman in tow.

Speaking to news.com.au from inside the Jeep marquee, Port said this was her sixth or seventh trip to our shores and the event had left quite an impression on her.

“I’ve been to the Melbourne Cup, it was a similar vibe to this, with the marquees and the horse culture, but this is really cool,” she said. “Everyone’s so chilled, it’s fantastic.”

Sartorially speaking, the Whitney Eve designer said she was enjoying the fun of people watching - as much the rest of the crowd.

“From what I’ve seen everybody takes a lot of pride in what they’re wearing, everybody looks beautiful and they all look really polished, I’m really impressed.

Another guest who cut a striking figure through the Jeep marquee was Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, who was more than happy to chat with punters who all remarked on her approachability.

Bishop arrived at the event with boyfriend David Panton, looking remarkable in a large sunhat, cream double-breasted jacket, knee-length skirt and tan wedges.

Regulars on the social scene, Tim Robards and Anna Heinrich, stopped to take selfies with polo-goers, as producers and scouts from the production company behind the show scoured the style savvy crowd for potential Bachelors and Bachelorettes for the upcoming season.

Other reality stars included the Real Housewives of Melbourne stars who mixed with the crowd (and all appeared to be still speaking to one another!)

MasterChef host Matt Preston ditched his trademark cravat as he flipped burgers and served hundreds of sliders to the hungry crowd.

Other guests in Jeep marquee included Harry Kewell, just married Anthony Lehmann and new wife Kelly, Frances Abbott and partner Lindsay Smith, Tottie Goldsmith, Billy Brownless and his daughters Ruby and Lucy, and Sydney footballer Dan Hannebery. As well as swathes of other well known names who stopped by.

Microflite and Jeep sponsored helicopters were in overdrive as they ferried passengers to the beach location, at a rumoured cost of $3 million.
